Frequently Asked Questions

Do you sell single day tickets?
We do not sell any single day advance tickets. Typically we sell a Saturday/Sunday ticket and a Sunday only ticket at the box office.

Can we arrive Friday night if we only want to get a Saturday/Sunday ticket?
No- tickets include camping and parking so Friday night would not be included in a Saturday/Sunday ticket. The same goes for Saturday night if you only want a Sunday ticket.

Is there going to be a family camping area this year?
Yes! After some confusion last year, we are going to set aside a nice, quiet-hour, family camp area where we hope parking access will be close to camping. We will have clear signage. More details will be posted soon!

We have a vw camper van that we prefer to sleep and make food in. According to the online information, my van is not an RV so we can't stay in that area. Also according to the information, we can't "camp" in the parking area. So, my question is, will you have a van parking area that we can camp in that is somewhat level?
...as stated in the small RV policy that we are implementing this year, we will save a place and a more flat area for vans and such where they can sleep comfortably in the vehicle. They will not be able to set up a camp next to the vehicle at all. They can certainly set up a day use area for themselves, i.e. chairs and such with the rest of the tent campers, but because we do not mix camping and cars they can't set up along side their vans.

Camping Information

As usual, there will be early arrival allowed again this year starting at 4pm on Thursday, July 17, 2008. Fees for car and driver are $20 ($10 for car and $10 for driver). Each additional person over 10 years old, is $10. Please note that same camping regulations apply for early arrivals. The gates open to the public beginning at 12:00pm on Friday, July 18. Gates will close Monday, at 12:00pm on July 21. Horning’s Hideout offers primitive camping only. The camping areas will be separate from the parking areas. Drinking water is also available for no fee. A variety of independent vendors will be selling food and crafts for the duration of the event. Ice and bottled water will be available for purchase. An ATM will be onsite. We encourage patrons to bring enough cash to last the three-day weekend. Portable toilets and hand washing stations are located throughout the Hideout. Telephones will be available to the public for local calls. Calling cards will be necessary for long distance calls.

A special Kids Area will feature the Horning’s Hideout playground equipment, organized games, crafts and volunteer chaperones. Please stay with your child at all times. Please also take advantage of the free children identification bracelets available in the Kids Area. The children ID bracelets will identify the child and parents name. This year we have also organized a Lost Child Protocol. We request that any parent that becomes separated from their child notify staff or security immediately. When a child is missing all existing vehicles will be stopped so that the identity of any exiting children can be verified. We apologize for any inconvenience that results from this policy. Lets keep our children safe!

A Family Camping area will be open to anyone wishing to camp with children or otherwise enjoy a more quiet camping experience. We ask that noise and partying be kept out of this area.

Family Camping Information

String Summit is a strong family-oriented festival. We have a designated family camping area where quiet hours are observed. We also have a "kid's tent" that features all manner of arts and crafts. String Summit volunteers are on hand to facilitate and provide limited supplies. Please note this is not a day-care or babysitting service. Volunteers cannot accept responsibility for your children. We encourage parents to supervise and participate.

In order to minimize the trauma of lost children, children under 10, who are admitted free with paying adult, will not be permitted to enter or exit the amphitheater without a responsible adult. Even non-paying children are required to wear a wristband. We encourage you to stop by the kid's tent and write their name on their band with permanent marker. If you do lose a child please report it immediately to a radio wearing security person. We will then lock down the amphitheater until your child is located.

Please keep your little ones well fed and well hydrated, and don't forget to keep them protected from the sun. Sunscreen and hats are strongly encouraged for everyone, especially kids! Hoola Hoops and safe toys are always welcome.
